The county also boasts some of the best gardens in the UK, including Exbury Gardens & Steam Railway in the New Forest or Sir Harold Hillier Gardens in Romsey. On the coast you will find a unique coastline which is popular with walkers, nature lovers and sailors, with Hayling Island offering one of the best beaches in the county.

Winchester

The city of Winchester was formally the capital of England. It has an assortment of attractions, including its spectacular cathedral and historic military museums. The Great Hall is the famous home to King Arthur’s legendary Round Table and is the only surviving part of Winchester Castle. On the outskirts of Winchester, you will find 120 acres wildlife park at Marwell Zoo featuring over 170 exotic and endangered species.

Southampton

Southampton is a port city on England’s south coast and host the annual international boat show each September. It’s home to the Sea City Museum, with an interactive model of the Titanic, which departed from Southampton in 1912. Solent Sky Museum features vintage aircraft like the iconic Spitfire. Portsmouth

Hampshire's watercress production is world famous and the area is renowned for the Hampshire Hog, artisan cheeses including Lyburn Winchester and London Blewe. Also the award-winning Hampshire Food Festival. It is home to Susie Carter, winner of ITV1's Britain's Best Dish, who wowed judges with her watercress and smoked trout tart made entirely from Hampshire ingredients. Hampshire food has been heavily influenced by the trading ships visiting the docks for hundreds of years. Top local eateries include Vetiver Restaurant at Chewton Glen in the New Forest and Lainston House, a charming 17th century country hotel near Winchester.

Hampshire is just an hour from London and its excellent transport links make it an easy destination to reach, whether you are travelling by road, train, ferry, coach or bus. There are frequent ferries to the Isle of Wight from Lymington, Southampton and Portsmouth while Southampton is home port to famous cruise liners such as Queen Mary 2. Portsmouth has ferry links with France and Spain and Southampton Airport provides easy access to Europe.
